Distribution day

Following the formation of the Southern League (SL) in 1969, a general inquiry in 1970 initiated by Noel Fisher showed a widespread interest among clubs tired of the surfeit of draws in ‘friendly’ cricket and looking for a competitive edge with rewards, in the form of promotion, for success.

Just a reminder that the cricket balls and handbooks for the 2019 season will be available at Compton & Chandlers Ford CC pavilion on the morning of Sunday 28th April from 1000 to 1200.

The numbers of cricket balls delivered to the league is only 50% of the order that had been placed for the men's leagues. All the orders for women's leagues have been delivered in full. This shortfall in numbers is due to difficulties at the sub continent factory where the balls are manufactured. Thus, the full distribution of each cricket club' order for balls will not be possible in general.

So on Sunday most clubs will pick up a reduced number of balls. We are sorry for this but we were only informed of the problem late last week and we have been liaising with British Cricket Balls Ltd who manufacture the Dukes ball used in our league. This problem is affecting many other cricket leagues within this country and also other manufacturers of cricket balls.

The remaining part order will arrive within FOUR to SIX weeks. When the back order arrives arrangements will be made for each club at a  local venue for their pick up.

Lets hope that we have good weather and lot of cricket is played in the league.
