Message from HCL Chairman

History

Following the formation of the Southern League (SL) in 1969, a general inquiry in 1970 initiated by Noel Fisher showed a widespread interest among clubs tired of the surfeit of draws in ‘friendly’ cricket and looking for a competitive edge with rewards, in the form of promotion, for success.

The Hampshire League Management Committee wish to remind all Clubs that the Hampshire Cricket League AGM will be held at The Shane Warne Suite, The Ageas Bowl, Botley Road, West End SO30 3XH starting at 7-30pm on Thursday 15th February 2018.

I believe that Hampshire League Clubs have all received emails and media circulars from The Hampshire Cricket Board regarding Changes to shorten HL Games.  These contain inaccurate and misleading details.  The 78% of players that want 1pm earlier start times as advertised is misleading.  The Survey that was taken by HCB attracted up to 10% of the players in SPL and HL. So 90% did not take part. It would appear according to the HCB 78% of the 10% wanted 1pm starts. So please do not feel that the majority of players want some of these changes.  It will be up to your individual Clubs to choose what suits them on the 15th and not be pressurised by others with hidden agendas.

The Management Committee realise that things need to change and have put forward a number of proposals to help to shorten the game. However we cannot support some of the radical non cricketing ideas that have been suggested, which have not been thought through and are unworkable at the present time.  There is no pressure from The HCL and Clubs will decide on the night of the AGM, but we wanted to clear up the misleading facts that have been sent around the County.
